The Institute of Applied Equine Podiatry is pleased to bring back its three-day Applied Equine Podiatry Course. Over the first two days, you will learn about anatomy, foot function, hoof balance with the Dynamic Balance Hoof Level, and more. On the third day, you will practice using tools for the HPT Balance Method. We provide the school tools, but please bring your own farrier’s apron and work gloves. All work will be done on a cadaver specimen, with one hoof provided for each student.

Description

This course is for anyone who wants to:
• Recognize the characteristics of a healthy equine foot and assess balance in the horse’s hooves.
• Better understand advice from hoof care professionals or Applied Equine Podiatrists. You’ll also learn what makes a trim balanced and see how it’s done.
Course Overview:
Day 1: Explore the foot as a complex structure, not just the hoof.
We’ll look at the different parts of the foot and what each one does.
You’ll learn about the inside of the foot and the Internal Arch Apparatus.
Day 2: You’ll be introduced to Physiological Sequence, a helpful tool for assessment. Putting knowledge into practice.
You’ll take part in a hands-on dissection to see the foot’s structures up close.
We’ll analyze the foot using the AEP evaluation criteria.
You’ll learn how to help a horse develop healthier feet.
You’ll find out how to identify the horse’s internal foot, which helps achieve balance between the hoof and foot. We’ll also introduce the Dynamic Balance Hoof Level.
Day 3: See how to apply what you’ve learned about balance.
You’ll learn how to use tools correctly, including the Dynamic Balance Hoof Level.
We provide the tools you’ll need for the course, but you must bring your own farrier’s apron and protective gloves for working with a cadaver hoof specimen.
Henrik Alling, DAEP, is a licensed instructor with the Institute of Applied Equine Podiatry.
